VCU Department of Gerontology

The department is well-known for the quality and innovation of its programs and for the scholarship and applied expertise of its faculty.

The Department of Gerontology offers a variety of degree programs based on am interdisciplinary approach using the bio-psycho social model.

The Gerontology Department in the School of Allied Health Professions offers a 30-credit hour Master's of Science degree in Gerontology and a 17-credit graduate level certificate in Aging Studies.

Alzheimer's Association - Central and Western Virginia Chapter

The Alzheimer’s Association is the leading voluntary health organization in Alzheimer care, support and research.

The mission is to eliminate Alzheimer's disease through the advancement of research; to provide and enhance care and support for all affected; and to reduce the risk of dementia through the promotion of brain health.


UVA Institute on Aging

The Institute on Aging (IoA) is a pan-university initiative sponsored by the Office of the Vice President for Research.

It promotes basic and applied research on topics related to aging, serves as an information and education resource about aging issues, and seeks to influence the development and implementation of public policy that addresses the needs of older adults.

To that end, the Institute offers seed-money grants to stimulate new research and educational programs, and sponsors lectures and conferences for scholars, service providers, and the community at large.
